Describe your teaching career (note any awards or recognitions)
I have been an educator for 25 years. Before coming to Fletcher, I received the 2011 Employee of the Year Award for Lafourche Parish School District. I am currently a Business Department Head, Office Systems and Medical Coding Program Coordinator, and Office Systems and IT Instructor at Fletcher Technical Community College in Schriever, LA. I am also a Professional Virtual Instructor of English and Business for Imagine Learning. I have a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology with an Administrative Leadership certification and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education with minors in English and Library Science for Louisiana. While working for Imagine Learning, I have become certified to teach grades 6-12 in the states of California, Georgia, Idaho, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. I am LCTCS--Fletcher Technical Community College’s 2022 Faculty Member of the Year and a 2022-2024 Certified Ambassador.
Describe your teaching philosophy:
My philosophy on teaching is always being prepared for change, never stop learning, and step out of my comfort zone at any chance I get. Student success is my number one priority, and I do this by being fair, consistent, and every student’s biggest cheerleader. Believing in oneself can change any outcome. We are the motivators of our students’ successes.
Describe your presentation style while teaching:
I am a very hands-on teacher who is not afraid to try something new each semester. Whether it’s using a new tool, application, or extension, my students learn by using innovative technology. This style of teaching makes learning fun because students can see themselves using these tools in real-life and in the workforce. Using these tools has helped in the earning of student IBC’s, such as Microsoft Office Specialist, IC3 GS6 Part 1, and IT Fundamentals.
How do you engage students in the classroom:
I engage students with hands-on participation. Whether it’s creating a student portfolio, such as the ones found here: Student Portfolios, or doing Health Checks to provide extra support when needed. Example Health Check is found here: Health Checks.
Students know I am here for them. This semester I have incorporated the Remind App to send positive reinforcement and news to students. I also engage students on new computer tips by sending weekly tips for students to enjoy. Click to view Computer Tips.
